An innovative partnership to support cancer care in the East Midlands has been recognised with a prestigious industry award.

The partnership between Volute, a Nottingham-based website and digital marketing business and East Midlands Cancer Alliance (EMCA), was recognised with the 2024 East Midlands Chamber of Commerce award for ‘Excellence in Collaboration', in Nottingham this month.

Volute director Tim Ryan said: ‘This partnership has brought together the best of the private sector, with the best of the public sector, to produce something that neither could do on their own. We are delighted to have been able to support cancer nurses in the vital work of advancing their knowledge and skills and ultimately improving the quality of care.'

The new learning management system was developed for EMCA's Aspirant Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Development Programme to offer cancer nurses access to learn new skills and gain valuable expertise.

There are approximately 26,000 new cancer cases diagnosed and 12,000 deaths from cancer each year in the East Midlands.

EMCA, a representative body supporting eight hospital trusts in the region, seeks to improve survival rates for people by ensuring early cancer detection. The organisation brings together teams from hospitals, cancer clinicians, GP practices, communities, commissioners and public health to improve cancer care and treatment and improve the experience of care and cancer outcomes for our local communities.
