Worthing Integrated Care Centre in West Sussex was due to open in January.

A Worthing Borough Council spokesperson said: ‘Work has continued at the Worthing Integrated Care Centre (WICC) over recent months to address the issues preventing the town's new health facility from opening.

‘Galliford Try, the main building contractor is working through issues that need to be addressed at the WICC, including the presence of legionella bacteria in the water supply and a fault with the water system.

‘We are pleased that recent test results confirm the system is now clear of legionella. However, the water system will remain under Galliford Try's control until all required works are fully completed, independently tested and formally signed off.

‘Galliford Try retains contractual responsibility for the design, construction and compliance of the WICC, having taken back control of the water system in August 2025 to rectify these issues. While work is ongoing, we are encouraged by the progress being made.

‘We will not accept handover until we are fully assured that it's compliant, safe and fully operational. This is essential to ensure our NHS partners can move in with confidence and begin seeing patients safely.'

A Galliford Try spokesperson said: ‘Galliford Try has been assisting Worthing Borough Council (WBC) to bring a conclusion to the issues that have affected the water system at Worthing Integrated Care Centre. We continue to work with WBC to bring the building back under their control as soon as possible.'
