Urgent and emergency care was upgraded from inadequate to requires improvement at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and rerated requires improvement at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Medical care was upgraded from requires improvement to good at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and rerated requires improvement at Princess Royal Hospital.

Speaking on Friday, Williams said: ‘Today's reports reflect another important step forward in our improvement journey.'

Williams recognised patients continued to face unacceptable waiting times, however, adding the trust was ‘committed to accelerating our progress through investing in new services and more modern tools to enable colleagues to deliver the best care.'

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust plans to further improve care through its multi-million pound transformation programme, including: investing in ambient voice technology and electronic prescribing; additional equipment to improve access to tests and investing in community services; reducing waiting times for stroke and cancer services and providing faster access to scans and tests; expansion and modernisation of the Emergency Centre at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital; and filling staffing gaps.
