A new leadership team has been praised for driving ‘significant improvements' at Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UHL).
The trust's well-led rating was improved from inadequate to good while medical care services at Broadgreen Hospital were also rated good following a CQC inspection in January.
James Sumner, group chief executive at UHL Group, said: ‘This is an incredible achievement for our organisation and one that follows a considerable period of change within our leadership and governance models.
‘I know that this has also taken a huge shift in our way of working across the organisation moving to an approach that focuses on risk in order to drive improvement, so I would like to thank colleagues for their commitment to adopting the new approach and embedding it, and for their work in helping us reach this point.'
Karen Knapton, CQC deputy director of operations in the North West, said: ‘At this latest visit we found a new leadership team, who were passionate about improving the quality of care for people and were aware of the trust's challenges and risks, and it was clear they were taking action to address them.'
Knapton said Broadgreen Hospital had ‘passionate staff' who put ‘people at the centre of their care' and ‘ensured people understood every part of the process, which helped them feel well informed about the care they were receiving'.
