The news came as the Government appointed four executive business leaders to strengthen partnerships with strategic suppliers to health and follows the confirmation in January of a new partnership between the NHS and independent sector.

Justin Ash, Spire Healthcare chief executive, said: ‘As a strategic supplier to the NHS and DHSC, we look forward to enhancing our already strong partnerships with the NHS where we are making a meaningful contribution to help reduce waiting lists.

‘At Spire alone we cared for almost 200,000 NHS patients in 2024. We have the capability to help greater numbers of NHS patients and look forward to doing even more to improve the health of the nation across our hospitals, primary care and occupational health services.'

Spire Healthcare has agreed to explore capital projects that may enhance its ability to care for more NHS patients in areas with long waiting times.

The private provider will also develop and launch community based, self-help and prevention offerings.

Spire Healthcare has also agreed to invest in more innovative technology such as robotics to deliver more accurate and precise surgeries for NHS patients.
