Marshall most recently served as chair of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.

She was also the first chair of the Great North Healthcare Alliance.

In her role at CDDFT, Marshall will work closely with chief executive Steve Russell and the Board to continue driving improvements and support a culture of openness, inclusion, and partnership across the organisation.

Marshall said: ‘While CDDFT is currently facing a time of challenge, I am pleased to step in as Interim Chair to support a positive move forward, with a relentless commitment to safety, supporting our people, and improving the experience of every patient and family across County Durham and Darlington.'

The appointment comes as the trust works with NHS England and the ICB to strengthen its leadership capability and governance following the recent review of Breast Surgical services. As part of this transition, Professor Richard Scothon has stepped down from his role as trust chairman.
