The initiative will see most patient letters and updates delivered digitally through the NHS App and text message.
Matt Palmer, acting chief information officer, said: ‘Digital First is about giving patients faster and more convenient access to hospital information while maintaining choice and supporting those who are unable to use digital services. This approach will help us communicate more effectively with patients whilst ensuring alternative arrangements remain available where needed.'
The trust said patients who needed or preferred paper letters will continue to have access to them, with a range of safeguards and alternative options available.
Mid Cheshire Hospitals said the move was designed to improve patient experience, reduce delays associated with traditional post and make it easier for people to access appointment information, clinic letters and updates.
Patients are being encouraged to download the NHS App and ensure their contact details, particularly mobile phone numbers, are up to date so they can benefit from digital communications.
