Watts will continue in her role of chief executive of both trusts while the search for a substantive appointment takes place.

‘I am very proud to lead Chelsea and Westminster and the Hillingdon Hospitals, and my commitment to our organisations and our people remains unchanged,' Watts said.

‘Together, we will continue to maintain the progress we are making and remain focused on what matters most: delivering high-quality care for our patients and communities and supporting our staff.

‘Taking on this interim role is also an opportunity to bring the experience and perspective of our hospitals, our staff and the communities we serve into the wider work of the NHS across London.'
