He said: ‘As I step away from my role at the end of June, I want to thank colleagues across CQC for the privilege of working alongside such committed, values driven people.'

Dr Arun Chopra, interim chief executive, said: ‘I want to thank Chris for all his contributions at CQC over the years.

‘He has been instrumental in ensuring we have a strong focus on mental health services in our work, making sure we focus on what's important for patients and people who use services.

‘He'll be a massive loss to CQC and we will miss him but I know he'll have a huge impact at NMC helping ensure excellence across the profession.'
