The allocation is part of £102m provided by the Government to create over 8m appointments.

Dr Abid Irfan, director of primary care at Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West ICB, said: ‘We are delighted to receive this funding to help those GP surgeries make better use of existing space to create new consultation and treatment rooms. It will ensure patients get better access to GP care.

‘We will now work closely with the 21 practices to carry out the next steps in the upgrade programme which include due diligence and putting in place the necessary legal permissions to progress with their schemes.'

BOB said the funding will enable local patients to access more than 220,000 new appointments a year and allow conversion of vacated community areas to create new clinical space.
