London Borough of Haringey's Public Health Team triumphed in the Reducing Health Inequalities category at HM's sister title MJ Achievement Awards 2025 at the Park Plaza in London on 20 June.

Cllr Lucia das Neves, cabinet member for health, social care and wellbeing, said: ‘We are delighted to see the gambling harms programme be recognised in the Reducing Health Inequalities category.

‘We have seen the harm gambling can have on residents and we are proud to work with partners, people with lived experience and our healthcare system colleagues to create new ways to tackle the harms done.

‘We will continue to be innovators and leaders in this space and in tackling health inequalities in our borough.'

The initiative, which saw Haringey become the first council in the country to join the Coalition to End Gambling Ads, fought off strong competition.

Highly Commended awards were presented to London Borough of Hackney for its support programme on foetal alcohol spectrum disorder and London Borough of Hounslow for its Hounslow Health Outreach Team.

Haringey also took the prize in the Innovation in Children's and Adult's Services category for its initiative with the Metropolitan Police Service looking at stop and search through a safeguarding lens.
