The Women and Children's Hospital is a Wave 1 scheme within the Government's New Hospital Programme, with construction expected from 2027 to 2028.

Steve Williamson, chief executive at RCHT, said: ‘The new Women and Children's Hospital Programme represents the biggest investment ever in healthcare in Cornwall and will help to transform the way RCHT delivers acute maternity services, and acute women and children's services, for generations to come.

‘An additional aspiration for this investment is to ensure that the new hospital becomes a source of civic pride, while also making a meaningful contribution to the long-term economic and social prosperity of Cornwall.'

Following a competitive process, the contract has been awarded to a consortium led by TODD Architects, in collaboration with White Arkitekter, Lavigne Lonsdale, Arup and Turley.

Matthew Hird, head of healthcare at TODD Architects and Design, team lead, said: ‘We are proud to have been appointed to deliver this important and visionary project for Cornwall. The new Women and Children's Hospital represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a truly integrated family-centred healthcare facility for the region. Our team is looking forward to working closely with NHS partners, stakeholders, and the local community to ensure the hospital reflects the needs, values, and aspirations of those it will serve.'
