A report by health IT market intelligence specialists Future Health Intelligence (FHI)  found just two NHS trusts had not installed or agreed to procure an EPR system by March 2026.

FHI chief executive Jon Hoeksma said: ‘Finally reaching near 100% coverage is a real achievement that deserves to be recognised and celebrated.'

Two suppliers, Epic from the US and Nervecentre from the UK, won the greatest number of EPR procurements over the past three years, but new contracts have been won by almost all the EPR suppliers in the market over the period, indicating a healthy market.

The largest EPR contract awarded over the past year was for by four trusts across Somerset and Dorset who awarded a £222m contract to US supplier Epic for a shared EPR.

Procurement activity has been accelerated by the target set by then health secretary Sajid Javid in 2022 target for 90% of hospitals to have an EPR by March 2024.
