Every teacher to receive SEND training under £200m programme

All staff in every nursery, school and college are required to receive SEND and inclusion training under a £200m programme announced by the Government.

New courses will be available to teaching staff to their deepen knowledge of how to adapt their teaching to meet a wide range ofneedsin the classroom, including visual impairments and speech and language needs.

Education secretary, Bridget Phillipson, said: 'Every child, wherever they live and whatever their needs, should have the opportunity to go to a local school where they can achieve and thrive.

‘That'swhywe'reequipping staff across every stage of education with more training on SEND and inclusion than ever before helping to deliver our vision of a truly inclusive education system.  

‘This is a key part of our mission to reform the SEND system so that schools cantake children from forgotten toincludedand giveparents the confidence that theright support will be thereat every stage of their child's education.'

The announcement followed the Government's £3bn investment in delivering around 50,000 more inclusive spaces in mainstream schools andengagement with parents and teachersand expertsover the last yearandas partofthe government's national conversation on SEND. 

In addition, the Government has invested £740m in creating over 10,000 specialist places.
