The news comes as ‘unacceptable issues' have resulted in the decision to find alternative placements for 287 patients at St Andrew's mental health hospital in Northampton.

Dr McVey, an experienced clinician, businesswoman and senior leader, took up the role on 1 September 2022.

Steve Gray, chair of St Andrew's Healthcare, said: ‘Vivienne has made a huge contribution to the charity and its patients. She has addressed some of the long-term challenges at St Andrew's Healthcare and restructured it to become a more focused healthcare provider, concentrating where patient need and demand is greatest. We'll build on these foundations to further support people with complex mental health needs.'

Dr McVey said: ‘It has been a privilege leading St Andrew's Healthcare. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the skilled and dedicated staff at the charity who, day and night, do extraordinary work to give our patients hope.'

The board hopes to make a new appointment in a few weeks. In the meantime, Gray will work closely with and support the executive team to lead the charity and deliver its priorities.
