The refurbishment forms part of The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust's wider Hospitals Transformation Programme (HTP) plans, with a four-storey expansion currently underway at the front of the RSH site, which is expected to open in 2028.

Natalie Rose, Emergency Department matron, said: ‘Our priority is always to provide the best care we can to our patients. By having the first phase of this refurbishment complete, we are well on our way to having the improved space to provide a better experience for our patients who really need it.

‘The team is excited to begin working in the new space and see the next phase of the refurbishment take shape as we progress with our much-needed transformation programme.'

Integrated Health Projects are the trust's HTP construction partner on the VINCI Building-led project.

Work on the ED is expected to be completed in 2027.
