Palantir to be asked to clear FDP benefit claims with the NHS

NHSE chief executive Sir Jim Mackey has said Palantir will be asked to share any claims regarding the benefits of the Federated Data Platform (FDP) with the NHS in the future.

Sir Jim told the Health and Social Care Committee he will write to the US company over the claims which he acknowledged were ‘contested'.

He said: ‘We will write to Palantir and tell them that they have to share with us and clear with us any benefits claimed in the future.

‘They should share them with us but contractually it's hard to enforce.'

Concerns over NHS England's presentation of FDP-related data about patient removals from waiting lists are being examined by the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) after they were contested.

NHS England has published a caveat on its website regarding the benefits of the FDP on a local organisation's operational performance stating: ‘NHS England cannot draw conclusions about cause and effect as other variables have not been controlled for.'

DHSC is examining whether to renew the Palantir contract or exercise a break clause in March 2027.

Health and social care secretary Yvette Cooper told the committee: ‘Of course trust and confidence has to be built into the use of any new technologies and programmes but that is not a comment on any individual contract.'
