The report, which is looking into around 2,500 individual cases, was originally planned for September 2025 but was postponed after up to 300 more cases for investigation were found.

Ockenden said: ‘The independent Review of maternity services led by Donna Ockenden at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUHT) will publish its report on Wednesday 24 June. The report will bring about both local and national learning, and will outline the necessary areas for development to ensure improved safety within perinatal services.

‘Following publication, my team and I will continue to have a role in overseeing the improvements made by the trust. We believe that this commitment will give families, staff and the trust reassurance that positive long-lasting change will be implemented in the way that was envisioned by the review team of clinical experts.

‘The trust have already shown their commitment to improvement, and have reported bi-monthly on their progress throughout the duration of the review.

‘We recognise this period of time may feel especially difficult for families and would like to thank them for their trust and continued engagement with the review since it began. Their voices are absolutely central to the review and through their courage they are making a difference to the safety of perinatal care.'

The NMC currently holds 92 Fitness to Practise cases relating to maternity care at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Of these, 76 are at Screening, the initial assessment stage of the process. A further 15 are currently undergoing full investigations. One case has been investigated and is at the Adjudications stage – where a determination will be made about whether the individual's Fitness to Practise is impaired.

The GMC has met with 56 families and holds 62 open cases relating to maternity care at NUHT. Of these 53 are at an initial assessment stage and nine are at early investigative stages.  GMC investigators are also reviewing over 300 information reports passed to them from the review.

Anthony May, chief executive at NUHT said: ‘This is an incredibly important and significant period for the families, as they await the outcome of the review. I have the utmost respect for their continued courage in coming forward to share their experiences and will continue to listen to them to rebuild trust and confidence in our services.

‘We are doing our best to improve our maternity services and will consider carefully the final report of the review, when it is published. Donna Ockenden has been feeding back to us throughout the course of the review, so we have been able to use this feedback in our efforts to improve.'
