NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Trust appoints Lowell

James Lowell has joined NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight on secondment from Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he has been chief executive for the past year and a half.

Lowell has significant experience of senior NHS roles spanning 28 years at system and provider level, including as executive place lead at NHS Southeast London ICB and chief operating officer at South London Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

He has also held senior roles at Medway NHS Foundation Trust and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

Lowell has replaced Dan Gibbs who has joined East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust as chief operating officer.

He said: ‘I am excited to have the opportunity to take on this crucial system role and help NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight to continue the significant progress and improvement made over the last couple of years.

‘I enjoyed my time at Queen Victoria Hospital, which is a fantastic organisation with dedicated staff, and having delivered on developing a co-produced five-year strategy for the organisation, I felt the time was right to take on a wider challenge that suits my experience and skills.'
