Lyn Simpson, has been made group chief of Humber Health Partnership, which includes Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and Trudie Davies has been appointed permanent chief executive at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust after just nine months in her interim role.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust were among five trusts included in the NHS Intensive Recovery programme revealed in March.

In outlining its programme, the DHSC said each of the trusts would receive a tailored improvement approach, designed jointly with local leadership and focused on delivery, including changes of leadership where necessary.

Simpson joined the Humber Health Partnership last summer on an interim basis at the request of NHS England to provide leadership and stability.

Since then, she has worked closely with clinicians and teams across both trusts to establish a clinically led improvement plan.

Sir Jim Mackey, NHS chief executive, said: ‘Lyn's appointment is really welcome – the challenges faced by these trusts are really significant but they've got a fantastic group of staff and Lyn's experience and expert leadership will be vital in enabling them to turn the corner to get local NHS services back delivering in a way that their patients deserve.'

Meanwhile, NHS England have backed the permanent appointment of Davies following her interim appointment as chief executive at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The trust said it was seeing reductions in waiting times for operations, diagnostic tests and cancer care. It added urgent and emergency care performance had also improved.

A major new £4m investment in urgent and emergency care was announced by the trust in March.

Davies said: ‘Together we have already begun to make encouraging steps forward on the challenges ahead, and it's clear to me just how much potential this organisation holds. I'm genuinely excited about what we can achieve together. My focus is now on accelerating our recovery and delivering safe, high-quality care for all of our communities.'
