The Widening Access initiative aims to tackle health inequalities and support people from working-class communities into meaningful, long-term careers in health and social care.
The initiative, funded by the government, will target those hit hardest by unemployment – including young people not in education, people with long-term health conditions or disabilities, and ethnic minority communities.
Tina Jenkinson, head of cultural transformation: Education & Training at NHS Humber & North Yorkshire Health & Care ICB, said: ‘In North East Lincolnshire, this means real opportunities for real people. Participants will gain key skills, job application support, interview prep, and even work placements – setting them on the path to rewarding roles like nursing and pharmacy support.
‘With mentoring, community outreach, and partnerships with local job centres and charities, this programme will strengthen our local workforce while ensuring the health and care sector reflects the communities it serves.
‘It's a huge step in line with the Government's 10-Year Health Plan – and a proud moment for our region. Let's keep opening doors, widening access, and making health and care careers truly inclusive.'
