The Emergency Care Building (ECB) currently being constructed at Derriford Hospital has been shortlisted for The Dalux Celebrating Innovative Construction Award 2026 which recognises projects that push the boundaries of construction through their innovative use of Dalux software.

Dalux is providing the Building Information Modelling viewer being used by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, together with its construction and supply chain partners, to build the ECB.

Stephen Ford, project director for construction partner Willmott Dixon, said: ‘The Dalux tool provides the digital backbone for the ECB, allowing us to consolidate project information and connect design, change, co-ordination and delivery seamlessly.'

‘Drawings, reviews and comments are managed in one place, with actions assigned and tracked to give teams clear visibility of responsibilities and decisions. Site teams can access the latest approved information directly where they need it, which improves accuracy and efficiency.'

Due for completion in April 2029, the ECB will provide four clinical floors of modern, purpose-built facilities designed to support the delivery of urgent and emergency care services for patients across Plymouth, South Devon and Cornwall.

Voting for the award is open to the public and is available until 30 October 2026. You can vote for the ECB here.
