The hospital propped up the national table with only 44.5% of patients receiving elective treatment within 18 weeks.

A spokesperson for The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital said: ‘We are committed to treating our patients in as timely a fashion as possible. We recognise that right now, too many patients are waiting longer for treatment than they or we would want, and we are determined to address this.

‘We continue to work with our clinical teams, and with NHS England and the national Getting It Right First Time team to maximise capacity. This work will drive improvement in the coming weeks and months.

‘There is a national target that, by March 2026, 65% patients will be treated within 18 weeks of referral, and we have a clear ambition to hit that target. We are confident that the plans we have put in place will enable us to do so.'

The Government has pledged that 92% of patients should wait no longer than 18 weeks for treatment by the end of the Parliament.
