CQC launches consultation on healthcare assessment proposals

A consultation on improving the assessment and rating of health and care providers has been launched by the CQC.

The consultation, which closes at 5pm on 11 December, sets out proposals to develop frameworks and guidance for assessing providers, and changing methods for inspecting, assessing and awarding ratings to health and care services.

In addition, the proposals include: describing expectations of quality for all rating levels; providing a clearer view of quality and safety; making assessment frameworks simpler and clearer; simplifying the rating approach and strengthening the role of professional judgement; reviewing and clarifying the approach to following up assessments and updating rating judgements; and potential changes to the approach to rating NHS trusts and independent hospitals.
