Baroness Casey was announced as the chair of a new independent commission on adult social care in January, the leader of a ‘rapid three-month audit' on grooming and as the Government's lead non-executive director for its Plan for Change.

A report to the latest meeting of the LGA's community wellbeing board read: ‘Along with sector partners, we continue to express our concerns regarding the [social care] commission's extended timeline, with a plan not expected until 2028. This timeframe contrasts sharply with the rapid pace of reviews like the Darzi Review and the 10-Year Plan for Health.

‘While recognising the importance and necessary prioritisation of this [other] work, we have concerns about Baroness Casey's capacity.'
