The upgrade for Mill Lodge and Red Kite View followed an inspection in October 2025.

The CQC re-rated effective and responsive as good, and caring and well-led improved from requires improvement to good. Safe was re-rated requires improvement. Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust remained good overall.

Inspectors found: staff assessed the physical and mental health needs of people when they were admitted; staff worked well across different teams to help support people; the service supported people to live healthier lives; staff told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care; staff treated people with compassion and kindness and respected their privacy and dignity; and leaders and the culture they created promoted high-quality, person-centred care.

However, the inspection also found: laders hadn't ensured all staff were trained in safeguarding to keep people safe, but had plans in place to ensure all staff were trained after the inspection; and staff didn't consistently follow good practice with regards to medicines management.

Nichola Sanderson, director of nursing and professions at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said: ‘We're delighted that the CQC has found our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services inpatient wards at Red Kite View in Leeds and Mill Lodge in York are performing well following October's re-inspection. Inspectors found that care plans are thorough and tailored so that young people receive the support they need. Young people told inspectors that our staff are kind and helpful, that they can speak to them when they need to and that they feel safe on the wards. We are already taking proactive steps to address the areas for improvement identified around safety.

‘This is positive news for the children and young people in our care who require inpatient mental health support and reflects our continued focus on delivering high quality, safe services.'
