Swift started his working life in research engineering in the private sector. He then spent more than 20 years in non-profit roles, becoming chief executive of Age Concern Calderdale, and later Age Concern Calderdale and Kirklees, before taking up a full-time role as leader of Calderdale Council in 2012, a position he held until May 2023.

He was the inaugural chair of the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, a position he continues to hold.

Swift said: ‘I am excited by the ambition and vision of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This includes its focus on serving the communities of Bradford and beyond and its efforts to recognise and celebrate its dedicated and committed colleagues. I look forward to making a positive contribution to the trust's future plans.'

Sarah Jones, chair for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, added: ‘Tim's experience in local government, voluntary and community sector organisations and his key role in our West Yorkshire integrated care system will be of immense value to the board, and our wider trust.'
