The myrecovery app contains interactive exercise videos, articles, informative videos and checklists to help people before and after their surgery, while questionnaires and insights will help the clinical team involved with their care to monitor and track their progress through a real-time dashboard. All information is personalised to each patient, and they can also use the app to report any concerns or to ask questions to their care team.

Patients will also be encouraged to complete daily pain scores and exercises, which both they and their clinician can use to track their progress and ensure they are getting the support they need.

Dr Claire Blandford, a consultant anaesthetist at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, who has helped to configure the app's content, said: ‘We understand that preparing for any surgery can be daunting and the myrecovery app provides people with the support they need both before and after an operation at a time that suits them. All the information has been tailored to Torbay and South Devon, making it a bespoke app, designed for patients by the clinical teams looking after them.'

Rosie Fowler, customer success manager from Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo), the creator of the myrecovery platform, added: ‘This collaboration allows us to continue growing our footprint within the NHS, while supporting trusts with innovative digital tools that directly improve patient experience and outcomes.

‘Seeing the early impact on both patient engagement and recovery journeys is incredibly rewarding, and it's exciting to know our work is fully aligned with the NHS's long-term strategy for smarter, more accessible care.'

The trust says 110 people have signed up to the app since it was launched on 28 July.
