More than 180,000 patients have used the platform at St George's with triage times reduced by up to 50%.
Vicky Timms, clinical lead for emergency medicine at Northwick Park Hospital, said: ‘Streamwave Patient Check-in gives our teams earlier visibility of patient information, streamlines the check-in process and helps us improve patient flow while delivering a better experience for patients arriving at our emergency department.'
Developed by emergency medicine doctors and designed specifically for urgent and emergency care environments, Patient Check-in enables patients to begin their care journey by simply scanning a QR code on arrival using their own smartphone - with no app to download.
Patients complete a short digital self-assessment, describing their symptoms in their own words while answering clinically-designed questions. This allows the triage process to begin as soon as the patient arrives, with clinicians receiving structured patient information before carrying out their face-to-face assessment, helping them identify patients who may need more urgent attention and make informed decisions sooner.
Recent data from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine estimates that more than 15,000 excess deaths were associated with prolonged emergency department waits during 2025.
Northwick Park Hospital operates one of the busiest emergency departments in London, treating more than 100,000 patients every year.
St George's Hospital is one of the capital's four major trauma centres and provides emergency care for a population of more than 1.3m people across south west London, alongside specialist services for patients from across the UK.
